90 Miles Away From Our Daughter

Something's that been in the news lately has been quite stunning and also kind of funny to me.  The story going around is that a family in Southern France took off from a rest stop, left their daughter behind on accident, then drove 90 miles before realizing she was missing.  Another family noticed she was alone and called the police, who subsequently radioed the family to come pick their daughter back up.  I'm glad the daughter was found quickly, otherwise it could have been another abduction situation.  We all thank the LORD for protection in times like these where people have the sick notion to kidnap children and do absolutely horrid things to them.

So after reading the story my one question is this.  How can you just leave a rest stop and NOT check your car to make sure everyone is with you?  You're on vacation in a strange place, and yet you don't make sure the little three-year old is safe in their carseat (or strapped in if you like to live on the dangerous side)?  This literally makes me worry of what's ahead for families all over the world.  At age three, most are still holding their parent's hands at rest stops so they don't take off and run away, never to be seen again.  I mean, you don't have to get as severe as buying one of those leash backpacks, which basically tells the general population "My child is no better than a small dog", but you should at least keep track of your child at all times.  Now, maybe the parents were in a daze of sorts, or just so happy to be on vacation that they imagined the three year old was there, but still this is so ridiculous.  If I ever have kids, I promise never to leave them on the side of the highway at rest stops, some of the sketchiest places on our freeways for so many reasons.

What do you make of this whole situation?  Sound off in the comments!
