It's a day off and I'm sitting at home scrolling through the Snapchat stories of my friends and co-workers.  I'm just leaving one person's story and moving onto the next, but first I have to watch an advertisement, because Snapchat needs to make money somehow doesn't it? I look at the screen, and for some reason a teenaged dude is just chilling there in a white suit and clown makeup lip syncing to some song I've never heard of before.  The screen is split though, so you know someone else must be coming to join him, right?  Well low and behold not even five seconds later another teenager in a black suit with his hair groomed to resemble a sheep and blue/black skin steps in and starts lip syncing to another part of the song where a different person seems to sing.  The ad cuts out not long after that, and I'm back with my Snapchat stories. It's the situation we've all had happen at least once in our lives.  We want to go get food at a sit down establishment, but we have nobody to go with.  Our brains begin to run at a million miles an hour, determining whether or not it's "worth it" to go to this restaurant or if we should just stay home and/or grab a take out box from another local establishment. To me, dining alone in a fancier restaurant such as Olive Garden, Red Lobster, or even Buffalo Wild Wings is just something I don't do very often.  I hate sitting there all alone with nothing to do but stare at my phone or sit in contemplating silence when I could be doing the same thing at home with the food in front of me and one of my favorite shows playing on the television.  It seems like taking the food home with me is almost always the better option, but is it really? The first week of January is always an interesting one.  Friends family and neighbors are trying to settle into new resolutions, school is starting up again, it's almost always cold, and you feel a sense of disbelief that you're in a new year. When the clock struck Midnight on Sunday morning I couldn't believe it was 2017.  A new year full of promise and hope and new adventures at every turn.  There'll be new people to meet, new places to go, and new things to try.  You don't notice it now, but at year's end a lot could be different.  That's kind of how 2016 went for me, with the year starting out having me living in Eveleth under my parent's roof, still in high school and running a business, and ending with me living in Fargo by myself, moving through my first semester of college, and volunteering for a radio station.  A lot can and will change in 365/366 days, and it's up to us to either embrace that change or drop it altogether.
