Toxic

Image
A while back, I had to stop and ask myself if I was the toxic person ruining my own friendships.  In some ways I think I am toxic if we're being completely honest based on my own personal experience with those who have toxic attitudes.  Just to give a few examples, I find myself to be seeking attention more than I should, letting things get stuck inside my head for longer than they need to be (especially my past experiences with people I no longer speak to), and I am almost always looking at the empty side of the glass.  To me, all three of these behaviors speak to the toxicity of me as an individual.  None of these things are ending easily with the mental health problems I unfortunately continue to endure, but I feel that I must do my best to try and hide them as often as I possibly can.  I must be a person who is always happy and smiling and looking at the positive side of the glass.  It seems really easy to do this doesn't it?  Those of you readin...

Boring Day Off Things

Image
I get three consecutive days off most weeks unless my schedule changes slightly to allow for a four day stretch or just a two day to accommodate the extra days off.  When my days off roll around, I always have the perfect envisioning of how they will go.  Ideally, I'll have time for my favorite activities, enough time to watch a few episodes of my favorite shows on Netflix and Hulu, maybe cook something, publish a new blog post or two, and of course the weekly episode of Untitled.  Most weeks on Wednesday, I will also make time to watch Riverdale as it airs on The CW if I am home at the time and will eat at home instead of going somewhere before Untitled. My days off come, and I am ready for these plans.  But then I have to do other things, these things being.... Homework Extra sleep to accommodate missed sleep during my work days Housework Trips to the laundromat Grocery shopping Unexpected errands Doctor's appointments and meetings Before you k...

Reaching For The Stars

Image
When I was younger, I just wanted to be a "car driver" when I grew up.  No, not a cabbie or a limousine driver, just a guy who drives cars.  I guess perhaps I was ready for the road at age 4, despite what my parents told me, up to the fact that they'd go to jail if either my sister or I drove the car, even just to Virginia.  Still though, my aspirations held on through most of my childhood.   If I can recall correctly, my dream career went through several changes as I got older.  After car driver, it was something along the lines of firefighter or doctor, also known as those professions every child wants to be around the time they hit Kindergarten.   Then it went to meteorologist, voice actor, and finally to news anchor/comedian/radio host, which is where I'm at now.  I also touched on a few other fields in high school, including urban engineer (too much math), and school principal/superintendent (too much schooling to get a license)....

Cool Computer Tricks You Might Not Have Known About (Windows OS)

Image
Computers are the most amazing piece of technology I've ever seen.  In the last twenty years or so they've come up with comparable apps and programs to the camera, the television, games, music, and so much more.  I find myself almost on some type of computer, be it my personal laptop or the studio computers at the NCR Studios almost daily.  They have helped me out so much in the past few years, especially since my hands now cramp up with too much pen/paper writing, making it easier to use the keyboard. Being on a computer a lot and referring to Google for assistance when I have questions I have come to learn the keyboard pretty decently, including many shortcuts that I have found useful in my day to day activities that require use of a computer.  Today, I just wanted to share a short list of some really easy tips and tricks that you might not have known about, and if you haven't, I hope they make your time at the keys easier. Let's start with file tran...

Sleep: A Struggle And A Joy

Image
Sleep isn't something that's very hard for me to come by.  Even after the smallest bit of contact with cold air I can come inside where it's warm and conk out in no time.  Some people I know sleep for about ten hours a night or more, and while I think that's healthy from time to time I most certainly can't do it all the time, as it will leave me feeling rather sluggish versus well-rested. While it has been noted in several different studies that the average amount of sleep needed each night for someone around my age is 6-8 hours, a study found  here  notes that it doesn't matter how much I'm sleeping, but rather I need to ensure I'm getting a good quality sleep in each night, meaning that when I blackout and start dreaming I should be sleeping well, not almost waking up several times, having trouble breathing, and constantly shifting positions.  This study almost seems too good to be true.... During the week my sleep varies from night to n...

Moving Away From Home

Image
In August I set off from Eveleth, MN for the last time on a regular basis.  After a radio shift in Grand Rapids it was off west to Fargo.... for that wonderful financially burdening thing we call college. After just barely graduating high school and a fun summer that followed it, it was time for me to start my post-secondary educational career and enjoy the adventures that came with it. I was much more excited then, as college seemed like something so spectacular and fun, and I was finally ready to be in a different area.  I slept heavily throughout the night at the hotel, eager to see what the next day would bring.  The next morning, we rode over to the college, moved all my stuff in, and then my mother and sister left.... And then it hit me.... I was more or less alone.  There were several times that first night on campus where I almost broke down in sobs and wanted to turn around and go home. For the first few days while I was on campus I tried to...
