Christmas
Today is the Christmas holiday. This holiday is so great! The lights, the atmosphere, the hostile shopping environments, the family stuff, the list goes on and on. Of course, sometimes in our flurry to celebrate the season we lose sight of the holiday's true meaning, and the meaning involves part of the reason we can go to sleep at night knowing we'll ascend to Heaven upon our departure from our current bodies.
Yes that's right, today is Jesus' birthday, and as Chris Rock said in a stand-up bit of his.....
"We have an entire shopping season based around Jesus' birthday. As a matter of fact, after the season is over, people will come out and say how horrible the Jesus' birthday season sales were this year"
This quote is so true unfortunately. People will swarm the stores as early as October now in order to put those presents away as early as possible for people who probably don't even deserve them! Then, it's about the decorations and the food and everything else. We've all seemingly forgotten something ever so important it's sad.
Christmas marks the birthday of our Savior, and if we believe he died for our sins and choose to accept him as our Savior and pick up the cross and follow him we will be saved. I wasn't saved until age 11, and there's quite the story behind that, but that's for another day. The key to eternal happiness comes from the only sinless man in the world that was born today. The Son of God himself.
So today, when you're out and about with family, or just lounging around the house, take the time to remember the greatest present of all, the present of Eternal Life through Jesus Christ. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
