Make The Most Out Of Your Thanksgiving This Year

In just two short days many of us will be sitting down to a table with our family members to enjoy a meal together as well as play games, watch football, share what we're thankful for, and then fall asleep into a turkey coma mid-afternoon.  Yes that's right, it's Thanksgiving.  Man this year has flown by....

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays.  One of the reasons is the absence of gift-giving, which removes the obligatory parts of Christmas and Easter and turns the holiday into more of an authentic celebrate it with your family type of thing.  Christmas shopping has more than crept into the holiday, but most of us are still able to ignore it and wait to catch those doorbuster sales until another day, and while I work for a company that needs me on Thanksgiving night and I don't mind it that much, I do applaud the Mall of America for deciding to be closed this year.  Definitely a possible sign of them trying to reverse a trend we've seen over the last few years or so.

Another reason is the amazing food available.  Mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, cranberries, and of course turkey are the best things about the dinner/desert.  I have yet to pass up a Thanksgiving without having a pumpkin pie available, as the taste of it is wonderful, and (at least for me), way too easy to get hooked on.

Lastly, the time you get in with your fellow family members is unbeatable.  You may not see some of these people for an entire year between holidays, so to have the opportunity to catch up with them is a wonderful thing.  Family is so important too when you consider the bigger picture of life.  They're always there for you :)

No matter what you're planning on eating and what you plan on doing, I hope you have a great holiday and make the most out of it.  Visit with your relatives and figure out what they've been up to for the past year all while they do the same for you, carve the turkey together, and sample each other's pies and other assorted baked goods.  Heck, if your family is up for it check out the Black Friday deals afterwards, or maybe change course from the popular trend and stay in and watch a movie. That's what my family used to do ;)

I hope you all have an awesome Thanksgiving Holiday no matter which way you celebrate it.  From being in a turkey coma to screaming at the football refs on the TV, to checking out the eerie balloons at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, have a great day!
