To All Future 7th Graders

Image
The school year is fast approaching, and while for some of us it means Senior year, for others it means seventh grade, which is the start of high school for most of us up here in the Northland.  It's an entirely new adventure, and although for some it can seem scary, for others it can be quite the wonderful experience.  Here are some tips to survive your first year in the wonderful world of high school, no matter where you may be in the country.  Don't Run Down The Hallways: Punctuality is going to seem like a big deal when you first start high school, the reason being you're fearing tardies on your permanent record.  However, it's not as big of a deal as it seems.  You don't need to treat the hallway like it's a freeway.  Just take it easy, but don't act like it's a traffic jam, because other people who have places to be will shove you around to get where they need to go.  Participate, Participate, Participate: Some of us when we start high s

31 Signs You Attended A Small High School

I'm not usually one to share posts from other websites, but many thanks to Jeremy Argir for sharing this from Country Outfitter.  You're the real MVP Jeremy. To not copy this post word for word, I have added short descriptions after each of them to personalize them for Cherry HS.  Happy Reading! 1. You knew the name of every single person you walked past in the hallway. Staff included.            - Yup!  This seems about right!  Sometimes it does take a while to get the name down of that random new kid from another school, but once the name is known it's back to normal. 2. You knew the names of the siblings of all the people you walked past in the hallway. Staff included.            - I don't but maybe someone else does.  Cherry has a lot of extended family that I've never met because I started going there in the 7th grade.  Maybe someday.... 3. You knew every teacher’s first name and where they went to church.            - I know every teacher's firs

90 Miles Away From Our Daughter

Image
Something's that been in the news lately has been quite stunning and also kind of funny to me.  The story going around is that a family in Southern France took off from a rest stop, left their daughter behind on accident, then drove 90 miles before realizing she was missing.  Another family noticed she was alone and called the police, who subsequently radioed the family to come pick their daughter back up.  I'm glad the daughter was found quickly, otherwise it could have been another abduction situation.  We all thank the LORD for protection in times like these where people have the sick notion to kidnap children and do absolutely horrid things to them.  So after reading the story my one question is this.  How can you just leave a rest stop and NOT check your car to make sure everyone is with you?  You're on vacation in a strange place, and yet you don't make sure the little three-year old is safe in their carseat (or strapped in if you like to live on the dang

Getting Back To Writing

A few weeks ago I picked up a fancy looking journal from Walmart thinking "Why not?".  Now I usually don't buy things out of the stationery aisle because I end up never using them, but this one really caught my eye.  On the front is a picture of Big Ben with a double decker bus rolling in front of it, and it looks awesome!   In this book/journal, I've started writing some weird memoir/life story.  As of now I'm planning to stay exactly on detail, and I'm hoping that somewhere in the course of time I don't change that.  The plan is that once I've caught up to the present day, I'll just write in the moments that are worthy of the journal.  When I've run out of room in one I'll go buy another and continue the story.  Then once I'm old and graying the memories will be written down and shareable with the family I hope to have.   I also hope to give the story some type of central plotline as time goes on, but for now I'm just filli

What Trainwreck Teaches Us

Image
Amy Schumer is a rising star.  Since launching her show Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central a while back her name has been flying everywhere, and that continues now with the release of her film Trainwreck .  I had the pleasure of seeing this film yesterday, and while it's definitely not the best laugh out loud comedy I've ever seen, the film has a lot of heart and tries to show us all something. That something is that commitment in a relationship can be good.  We watch Schumer's character go from adulterating with tons of guys and "dating" one of them, to having a long-lasting relationship with one of the guys she's writing an article on.  This relationship really takes Amy by surprise, as she doesn't even know what to do or what's normal in a committed relationship.  She is also prone to easy hyperventilation. As the film goes on things get tense at times between the two, and they almost break up when they take a temporary separation, but bo

My Favorite Songs

I have had the nickname DJ Rollie D for about two years now.  It all started when two of my classmates began saying it.  I wasn't for it at first, but then it stuck, and it's being used whenever I close out a football game or Free Range Sports broadcast, as my Twitter You Tube and Instagram usernames, my blog name, and some other stuff.  Little kids get addicted to it very easily as well for some reason.  Will it wear off some day?  My guess is probably, but then again, you never know :) Now that you have the backstory on the name, on to today's post.  This post is my 100th post, and I am very excited to have been on Blogger long enough to write a 100th post.  I hope to keep writing hundreds more of these for you guys to enjoy and comment on.  I figured this post should be some type of top 100 list, and since I'm so into music, I thought that listing off my 100 favorite songs would be awesome.  I'm always asked what my favorite song is, and I don't really have
