My Top Ten Movies of 2015

I saw less movies this year than I did last year, but I still saw around 10-15 from 2015.  That being said, in no particular order, here are my top 10 movies of 2015.

The Wedding Ringer

Kevin Hart and Josh Gad team up to bring a satisfying comedy about a groom to be who hasn't really had many people for friends and decides to hire a black market service instead.  The movie, while not my absolute favorite of the year, still brought out loads of laughs, and some memorable performances from Hart and Gad.

Trainwreck

Trainwreck comes from Amy Schumer, a rising star in the comedy world.  I enjoy this film for a few reasons.  The first is the performance from Bill Hader.  Hader has been one of my favorite actors to come from the SNL machine, and here his performance is awesome and fun to watch.  The second is the lesson it teaches us, and that's that sleeping around with a bunch of people isn't really the best thing out there and that there's more to life that comes from being with one partner.  I elaborated further on that in  a recent post from August that you can find in the sidebar.

Spy

A lot of people have grown tired of the formulaic antics of Melissa McCarthy.  She's been the same type of character in films like Tammy, Identity Thief, and Bridesmaids.  She's also set to do the same thing (sort of) in Ghostbusters next year.  However, here her craziness blends in with a different type of character, one who really cares about the people she's working with and for, well most of the time. The performances given by Allison Janney and Jason Statham also bring it up a notch for me.  Spy definitely comes close to being one of my favorite films this year.

Paper Towns

I refuse to see The Fault In Our Stars, as I feel it is too much of a romance movie and it seems extremely sappy.  This film is much different from that.  While it's still a love story in some senses, it brings in something new, that new thing being a sense of adventure and a sense of undying love.  The lead character takes his friends on a cross country road trip to find a girl who decided to remove herself from city life.  The film also gets a thumbs up for showing that you can't always get what you want and sometimes people like to leave mysteries behind when they disappear.  John Green definitely has the better book with Paper Towns

Vacation

This is a really cool film.  It takes a franchise from the 80's that had people going to see it in droves, and reboots with the next generation.  Rusty Griswold, now in his 30's/40's, takes his family on a roadtrip to Wally World, a theme park in California. Along the way they bathe in a sewage pit, have an ATV accident, almost fall down a waterfall, and get arrested on the 4 Corners.  This was an awesome film, and it is most definitely rewatchable.

The Peanuts Movie

Charles Schulz created a legend with Peanuts, a comic strip that features kids who actually think and act like adults sometimes.  The strip never really went forward in terms of age, and neither does this movie.  What I like about the film is that it's basically an extended comic strip and it brings back all the favorite moments from the strips.  The CGI animation was wonderfully done as well.  This is a timeless treasure that introduces Charlie Brown to a new generation of children.

Inside Out

What's this?  A film that actually looks at the emotions of us as humans?  Awesome!  This film tends to hit sad notes most of the way, but in between those are some really fun moments, some of them are really really funny too.  See this film with your kids, you won't regret it.

Pixels

Adam Sandler tends to do a lot of repeats in terms of his films.  This one however really stands out from the crowd.  Featuring Kevin James as the President, Peter Dinklage as a gaming freak now serving time in prison as well as cameos from Martha Stewart and Serena Williams, as well as a little orange thing that looks and sounds cute, Pixels pulls out all the stops for a film about video gaming stepped up a few notches.

Get Hard

Will Ferrell is going to get locked up in prison for a long time due to some fraudulent activity, and so he turns to Kevin Hart's Darnell, a man who has actually never been in prison before, for assistance. The film most definitely has it's moments and is funny and breathtaking while it's also quite heartwarming.  Awesome performances from both Ferrell and Hart.

Minions

We end with another animated film.  Here's what I like about this film.  It has a really cool opening sequence inserting the Minions into history, and it brings things full circle by showing how they were created and how they met Gru.  Aside from that there's also some touching moments throughout the film like when the Minions get split up and proceed to start searching for each other.  There are some laugh out loud moments as well like when the family that gives Stuart Kevin and Bob a ride turns out to be a crew of bank robbers.  The film does have it's down points but when pitted against other films of this year such as Tomorrowland and Southpaw, I find that this one is much more enjoyable.
